Salary, Benefits & Incentives

Salary Scale:

  • Entry level: $22.13/hour
  • Lateral: $22.77 – $26.98/hour DOQ

Retirement:

  • Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA)
  • Municipal Police Plan 5
  • Retirement can occur at:
    • Any age with 25 or more years of service credit
    • 60 years of age or older with 6 or more years of service credit
  • 3% pension factor not to exceed 90% of final average salary
  • 6 year vesting period
  • 13.8% employee contribution with 20.9% employer contribution

Time-Off Benefits:

  • 11 paid holidays per year
  • Sick leave (accrued at approximately 95 hours/year)
  • Vacation leave – 2 weeks/year (up to 5 years of service), 3 weeks/year (5 – 10 years of service), 4 weeks/year (10+ years of service)
  • Personal day – 8 hours per year
  • Bereavement leave – Up to 40 hours
  • Comp time – maximum of 80 hours

Insurance:

  • Group Health Insurance Plan includes major medical, dental, vision, prescription medicine and life insurance for employee and their eligible dependents; for the employee it also includes short-term disability.
  • Life insurance – Employer provided life insurance accompanies the medical benefits or you may elect to participate in the life insurance plan only.

Incentives:

  • College degree incentives:
    • Associates Degree – $1,800.00 per year
    • Bachelor’s Degree – $2,400.00 per year
    • Master’s Degree – $3,000.00 per year
  • Sign-on bonus:
    • Entry Level – None
    • Lateral/Certified – Up to $6,000.00 DOQ
      • 1/2 – first full paycheck after 30 days of employment
      • 1/3 – first paycheck after 180 days of employment
      • 1/6 – first paycheck after one year of employment
  • Language Bonus – $500 for those fluent in Spanish or Navajo
  • Take home vehicles (in-state only)
  • 4-day work week (work four 10-hour days and have three days off)

  • $200.00 yearly boot allowance
  • Educational Assistance – Tuition Reimbursement (available after one year)
